SUN 27th JUNE : CONEY ISLAND

The Lady and I visited Coney Island to see the new artists' signs on the amusement parks and freak shows.

Quite a spectacle - and that's just the regular people milling about. See all the photos below.

I went to Coney Island on the night that I arrived in NY from London. We got there at 12.30 (really 5.30am) and it was the single most frightening experience of my entire life.

I went to Coney Island last summer with another Aussie. It was really hot and we planned to go for a swim. That is until we hit the beach. The beach was packed, and we looked and felt like aliens walking down to the sand. People smiled but they seemed so disenfranchised. I've been to many countries and nowhere has made me feel so alien as I felt that day.

We didn't swim. The ocean was filthy and the sand disgusting. It is the only beach I have seen where I thought that it really would be better off turned into a car park.
