THURS 29th APR : OASIS THEN DESERT

The problem with these beautiful spring evenings is that if you go out to enjoy them you end up in an arrid patch between the time everyone goes home and the time everyone comes out.

Tonight (after tripping up the steps) I joined Phil USA at a seat overlooking the sidewalk at Cafe Noir on Grand for a Stella about 6pm. Everyone was happy - no one laughed (much) when I tripped over - the bar man even ran to get me an emergency pint.

After a couple of pints we made our way through Soho over to Cafe Lika in Lower East Side to meet people and sit in their back yard to quaff a Hoegarden or two and smoke cigarettes. For a moment we could have been in a chilled court yard hidden in Ibiza Town (if you didn't notice the Turkish-Techno art on the wall inside the cafe - but then again...)

Around 9pm everyone went home so Phil and I thought we'd hit some of the bars.

Tragedy. Angel was dead, Max Fish was dead, everywhere was bloody dead. We'd hit the twilight - and had drunk not enough so we still wanted more, but too much to know so we couldn't last until everyone came out later.

We ended our evening early watching a chapter of Lost Boys motor bikers revving their engines from an empty bar on the corner of 2nd and A.

Gosh, I miss 11pm closing times.
Gosh
