Fredericks
8 West 58th St, NY NY 10019. 212 752 6200. If you're a gentleman of a slightly older age who likes to dress smart and mingle with ladies who could be your daughter's age then Fredericks is the place for you. Just across from the ol' Plaza hotel, this place attracts a rather peculiar crowd of champagne charlies and keen blondes.
Somehow I've been twice. The second time the Lady got a bit tipsy on some free wine laid on by the NYC Fashion Party there - she wanted to go home, but I felt so sour by the experience that I refused to let Fredericks be the last place I would have a beer that night.

Shoreham Hotel
33 West 55th Street, 10019 - 212 247 3347 - The Shoreham Hotel is a smart little oasis in the center of crazy Midtown New York. I don't know what the accomodation is like but the bar and lounge are great places to meet for that social business meeting.

Josie's
565 3rd Ave (c/o 37th Street) 212 490 1558 - OK. So somehow you find yourself in Midtown around lunchtime and you're a little peckish. First recommendation woudl be to get out of Midtown, but if you can;t - get yourself some healthy lunch at Josie's. They call is 'concious cuisine'

Old Town
18th Street, just north of Union Square - Great 113 year old boozer unchanged by progress. Old Town possesses a great NYC style long, long bar with huge mirrors staring over the standing crowd and the lucky few seated in the antique booths. Maybe for discerning tastes / people who like old gothic bars. Beautiful to me but maybe just for one or two - just to see the place.
