Hotel On Rivington

107 Rivington Street (btwn Ludlow & Essex) 212 475 2600

The Hotel On Rivington is this super-huge new building plumped squat into an aging Lower East Side street. The juxtaposition is amusing but a little disconcerting and also, probably, a sign of things to come in LES.

Anyway - it's still being completed, so I can't even tell you about the hotel (if someone can, please do leave a comment) BUT: I did go to a pretty decent party on Feb 9th in the empty space which, no doubt will become the Penthouse and 20th Floor. No matter, what you might think of this new building - the view from the top is unparalled from any building downtown. You can see the rivers, the bridges, the cityscape from Midtown down to Lower Manhattan. At night, the city looks so still and dormant - it's simply breathtaking.

That Hotel on Rivington is horrible and a poor 22 y/o aspiring actress was murdered about a block away from the Hotel on Rivington a couple of weeks ago and 4 blocks from the hotel is one of nyc largest and most dangerous public housing projects.. do your self a favor and spend a little more to be a safe neighborhood .. it is not worth dying for to be a
" hip area"
