Decibel, Sake Bar

240 E. 9th Street, 212 979 2733 - you have to find the stairs down to this hidden basement sake bar and restaurant to find this East Village gem. Japanese businessmen sidle up to East Village students and Asian hipsters under the select lighting that hardly hides the arty graffiti on the walls. The food is cheap and great (includes katsuo, khada and saba miso (all fish dishes), udon or soba noodles, as well as shumai and various seaweeds and vegetables (but no sushi)).

The sake is even better!
