151 Rivington

NYC Bar151 Rivington Street - Decent dark and happening basement bar on Rivington in Lower East Side that packs out about midnight. Think 'rock'. At the weekend a DJ spins from a single turntable at the end of the bar.

Doesn't have a sign on the door. Look out for smokers hanging outside. (Feb 18/04)

UPDATE FEB 11th 05: Still the cool little rocky place that I remember. Avoid drinking too many shots of vodka with your beer.

Places To Go After 151
Check out the fun but trashy drinking den Johnsons at 123 Rivington
Get yourself up to Ludlow or Orchard Street for a bit of a bar crawl

Thanks for the tip--I'm always looking for unmarked bars. I added it to my New York Songlines website--http://www.nysonglines.com--and I also put a link to your blog on my sources page.

Ok bar if you are 22 and don't mind trucker hat hippsters in a dirty crowed room.

Some of you have by accident actually gone to the subway near Rivington instead of the Bar. Now if your bar is moving, then you can know you made a mistake. Also the beer is very hard to get on the subway. Just a tip you hip dips.

went here recently. lame lame lame. the crowd was young and obnoxious - it was much like being in some lame bar close to NYU and full of undergrads. and the music playing was generic cock rock. thumbs down.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Place has no sign. Just looked like someone's basement apartment. Saw some people smoking outside and decided to check it out. Place was rockin! Looks like a dive outside, inside its really cool- weird lights and rock wall. Great Djs, rock, nice bartenders. Best HAPpY HOUR- 2 for 1 until 10pm, every night.
